Travel Guide PhotosNext time you go someplace interesting, let your copy of Guide magazine travel with you. Then send us a picture of you with the magazine in an unusual location. We'll post it on this page. Send the photo, your name, your age, and a short description to guide@rhpa.org.
This photo is from Thacia, who takes Guide with her when she goes camping.
"I think they are learning to read!" says Araya, age 11, who submitted this picture.
This photo is taken at Nyngan, central N.S.W. (New South Wales), Australia. The helicopter is a memorial of a helicopter rescue by Australian army of the entire population of Nyngan during floods. Standing in front of the helicopter are Left to right: Timothy Richardson (14) and his brothers Kelden (14) and Jesse (9).
Excerpt from a local newspaper: "As the Bogan River rose, residents in Nyngan desperately attempted to raise levee banks. Over 200,000 sandbags were laid in 4 days but to no avail. The levees were breached on the 23rd as the river surged to 5.2 metres, nearly a metre higher than the previous record. Most of the town was inundated, and the population of 2,500 was evacuated by helicopter to Dubbo, 160km away."
Georgia Standish, age 14, got to go China and where she took her Guide magazine on a visit to the Great Wall. The 4,000 mile long wall is the longest structure that humans have ever built. Georgia remembers that "There were a lot of stairs."
Guide readers Erika, Doug, and Angela Weidemann live in the Philippines. Here they are sharing their magazines with a few friends at the Southern Asia Pacific Division headquarters. They are standing beside a jeepney which is the main mode of transportation in the Philippines. (Left to right) Doug Weidemann, Erika Weidemann, Joshua McEdward, Ryan Rumambi, Sharlyn Rumambi, Angela Weidemann, and Julia McEdward.
Moses Maier is 13 years old and an accomplished skydiver. Here you can see him parachuting over Yosemite National Park in California. No, wait. He fooled us with Photoshop.
Jordan Soukup, who is 11 years old, says "I love to read the Guide while sitting in a tree!"
John (left) and Jeffrey Dale went on a family vacation to the Grand Canyon, so they brought a Guide along for a Travel Guide photo. Jeffrey is 14 years old and John is 12. This picture was taken on the canyon rim between Mather and Yavapai Points close to sunset.
Here's a variation on our idea showing Guide in unusual places. Here's an unusual Guide reader! Daniel, age 11, sent this picture of his studious dog.
Tulips and cute lacy caps--is this Holland? Well, yes--Holland, Michigan, that is. Guide Associate Editor Rachel Whitaker poses with a Guide magazine and women in Dutch costume at the Tulip Festival. |
