Q. I like this boy , but I'm not sure if he likes me. My brothers started teasing me , so the boy I like doesn't hang around me anymore. I'm too shy to ask him if he likes me , and I don't think he'd respond to a letter. What should I do?

A. "It sounds as if this boy isn't interested in a serious relationship right now. Remember , boys usually mature more slowly than girls. Probably as long as the two of you were just good friends , the relationship was OK with him. But when others started putting the pressure on with teasing , he decided to back off. It must be hard to be in suspense about whether or not this guy likes you. But since he's not telling , there's not really much you can do to find out. And by all means , don't ask. You'll only make things worse by trying to force it out of him.

Even if he does like you , it's obvious that he just wants to be friends. (And as far as we're concerned , that's the way it should be for now.) If he doesn't like you , asking him will only put you and him in an awkward spot. Always remember that there's nothing you can do to make another person like you. Friendships should develop naturally , as the result of doing constructive things together in a positive Christian way. In order for a relationship to work , there has to be mutual attraction , admiration , and respect. For now , just concentrate on being a kind , considerate , friendly person whom others enjoy being around. And when the right time comes , you and """"Mr. Right"""" will hit it off.
